Raised Bed Planning Checklist
Plan access, drainage, materials, soil volume and irrigation before building a raised bed.
Choose the location
Confirm sun, water access, slope and clearances.
Set reachable width
Avoid beds so wide that the center cannot be reached without stepping into them.
Plan drainage
Do not create a sealed container unless the design specifically requires it.
Select durable materials
Consider soil contact, moisture and fastener compatibility.
Estimate soil last
Calculate fill only after the final inside dimensions are known.
