Why build it
This is a useful first project because the shape is simple, the cut list is short, and the final result teaches accurate measuring, edge finishing and wall-mount planning.
Materials
- 3/4 in plywood or solid board
- Wall-mount hardware rated for the intended load
- Wood glue
- Sandpaper and finish
Starter cut list
| Part | Qty | Length | Width |

| Shelf panel | 1 | 24 in | 8 in |
| Optional front edge strip | 1 | 24 in | 1.5 in |
| Optional concealed cleat | 1 | 22 in | 1.5 in |
Build sequence
- Confirm wall type, stud locations and intended load before choosing hardware.
- Cut the shelf panel square and ease sharp edges.
- Dry-fit any edge strip or cleat before glue-up.
- Sand through appropriate grits and apply the chosen finish.
- Install only with hardware suitable for the wall and load.
